KS Coffee kicked off in the summer of 2017, and started production roasting March of 2018 in the Mad River Valley of Vermont. The owner has been roasting and cupping professionally since 2012, was certified As a Q Arabica grader and SCA Taster, has extensive analytical experience in both the environmental field and in coffee, and shares a deep connection to coffee, coffee people, and the lands that support us.
From the owner:
KS Coffee is me putting my ethos to work at something tangible. I am an environmentalist, passionate about science and art, ethical living, and creating meaningful relationships. Though this is a small craft operation, the coffees I select are chosen from a variety of coffees cupped each year. My buying decisions are based on factors like the quality and complexity of the coffee, the environmental, gender and labor practices of the coffee producer/mill, certifications or awards the coffee or producer has earned, and more. While I still work with importers for transit logistics, I'm also directly working with (and paying) producers who I've met through my travels to their farms and mills or at trade shows. It is important to me that everyone along the supply chain benefits from our transaction, and that we as an industry continue to work toward increased transparency.
It is the mission of KS Coffee to raise awareness of coffee quality and coffee supply chain issues through educational events, to partner with folx in the local community on collaborative projects, to bring transparency to the tangible and intangible costs of coffee production, to offer consumers unique coffees sustainably produced, and to raise funds for both local organizations and coffee origin relief and improvement efforts. I aim to use any power and voice this business generates to advocate for and lift the voices of those frequently overlooked or oppressed, educate about the true costs associated with creating coffee and tea products, and work with those in the industry who are pushing to get beyond the systems that currently confine us all.
all packaging and serving consumables are entirely recyclable or compostable in a healthy backyard compost. KS Coffee is not just about creating a uniquely crafted product. It is an attempt to improve upon the stale industry standards that have existed for a long time. The coffee farmer deserves better. The consumer deserves better. The land deserves better. We all deserve to realize the benefits of working together toward a more sustainable and delicious future for coffee.
This work and growth is slow, deliberate, and sometimes messy, but Iām here for it, and delighted to see that you are too. Welcome.
Thank you for your interest and support of KS Coffee. Please reach out if you would like to collaborate, have product feedback, or simply wish to nerd out about coffee.
May your next cup be your best!
